KMB in Association with HOK provided the leadership role in development of Bridging Documents and Compliance Services to the Washington State Department of Corrections. The effort involved development of the Space Program, Conceptual Design, Cost Budget Model, Guide Specifications and Conformance Requirements for a Design/Build Team submittal.
The overall project involved an early site package with the building construction phase scheduled for a 24 month period. The project involved 22 buildings on a 120 acre site. The security perimeter of the New Medium Security Institution encompassed 54 acres. There are 4 Medium Security Housing units that house 1024 inmates and 4 Hybrid Medium Security Housing units that house 1024 inmates. The project also included a 64 bed Segregation Unit, a 43,000 S.F. Medical and Food Service Building, a 21,000 S.F. Inside Administration, Intake Building and Visitation Building, a 31,000 S.F. Inmate Program and Education Building, a 15,000 S.F. Wellness/Fitness/Gym and more than 60,000 S.F. of maintenance and industries buildings all inside the secure perimeter.
Outside the secure perimeter is an observation tower, 25,000 S.F. Administration/Staff Support/Central Control/Visitor processing building. The joint efforts of KMB/HOK and all the other participants in this project allowed the State of Washington to construct the new 2,000 bed facility on time, under budget and with no delays or claims.
