KMB practices the Integrated Design Process that impacts every facet and each phase of a project from programming and initial design concepts to actual occupancy and operation of the building. This process brings the client and the entire design team together at the very beginning of a project to establish the project goals and objectives, define project parameters, and chart a path to make decisions in a collective manner. This process utilizes the experience and expertise of each and every design discipline including architecture, structural engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, landscape design, and a LEED specialist. After goal-setting, team members engage in an “eco-charrette” to examine alternative site development and building options, energy supply systems, and building support system concepts. The goal of this exercise is to carefully balance energy efficiency, resource conservation, pollution control, and occupant comfort issues with schedule and budget requirements to achieve lasting building value and reduced life cycle costs. |
